How to Avoid a Car Accident this Holiday Season

As you can imagine, the Houston roads can become more dangerous during the holiday season with many people traveling to holiday events. This means that your risk of being in an auto accident is greater. The good news is that there are several precautions that you can take to keep yourself and your family safe during the holidays.

Before leaving for an event, you should check road and weather conditions. A bad storm can pose hazards that increase your chances of being in an accident. If the weather is too bad, you should think about possibly skipping the event.

Make sure that you and your passengers are properly buckled up, especially children. Unfortunately, many people needlessly lose their loves because they forget to fasten their seatbelts.

You should always avoid speeding, even if you are running late. Speeding is a major contributing factor to accidents on the roadways.

Heavy traffic can also be a recipe for disaster, especially during heavy commute times. Consider leaving a little bit early or later for an event, to avoid the dangers of heavy traffic.

Finally, though it may be obvious, avoid driving if you have been drinking. Reports show that alcohol can reduce your reaction times to dangers on the roadways. Alcohol and driving are never a good combination.

If you or someone you know has been involved in a car accident, you should contact Steve Lee, an experienced Houston car accident lawyer at (713) 921-4171 or (800) 232-3711.
