The oil and gas industry inTexasis currently experiencing a boom expected to last through 2016. Although this boom is excellent for the economy, it has its downfalls when it comes to construction. The increase in employment has led to an increase of construction accidents that have caused serious injuries and fatalities. This has led to an increase in legal claims.

With the sudden growth, employers need to hire workers quickly. They focus on increasing production and not enough time focusing on safety. These factors have led to a lack of training, a lack of established safety procedures and employees working extended shifts. All of these factors cause accidents.

Oil and gas workers inTexasoften work in extreme conditions. Many drilling rigs are running 24/7. Workers must use heavy machinery to move pipes. They work in extreme temperatures and often in shifts of at least 12 hours.

In the Gulf of Mexicoalone from 2006-2010, drilling rigs caused 1,300 injuries and 41 deaths. In 2008, Texasled all other states in number of oil and gas industry deaths at 41.
