American Traffic Solustions can turn Houston's contentious red-light camera system back as early as Aug. 1 if City Hall agrees. The election where voters rejected the surveillance operation was just eight monhts ago. (Chron.com)
Last week a judge ruled that the Houston charter requires that efforts to overturn ordinances by referendum must occur within 30 days of an ordinance's passage. Houston's red-light ordinance passed back in 2004 and was rejected in 2010.
If Houston does not reenforce the red light cameras American Traffic Soulutions will take this to court. They have already hired notable litigators, including former Texas Supreme Court Justice Tom Phillips. ATS contends if the camera system is not reactivated, damages could reach $20 million.
Accidents are not uncommon in Houston. With or without these cameras, hundreds of people die each year due to traffic accidents. If you become a victim of a speeding driver, you might be able to hold the driver responsible. You might be able to collect compensation to help secure your family's financial future.
If you or someone you know has been injured in a Houston accident, you should contact an experienced Houston accident attorney at (713) 921-4171 or (800) 232-3711.
