As you probably know, car accidents plague the Houston roadways. Almost everyday someone is injured in an accident. A lot of these injuries involve children and young people.
Would you be shocked to know that the use of child safety seats are below national goals? Also, 38 percent of all car accident deaths involve alcohol.
If you are a parent, then you need to know that motor vehicle-related injuries kill more children and young adults in America than any other factor. Tens of thousands of people are killed in car accidents annually.
Fortunately, the Task Force on Community Preventive Services compiled a list of recommendations to help reduce crash-related injuries, such as making sure that child safety seats are used properly. This can help lower the need of hospitalization for children by 69 percent.
The Task Force also recommends that all occupants are properly buckled up when traveling in a motorized vehicle. This suggestion may seem obvious, but you would be surprised to know how many travelers fail to do so.
Lastly, the Task Force recommends that all drivers keep from drinking and driving and make sure no under age drinkers drive while intoxicated.
As you can imagine, the failure to follow any of these recommendations can put you, your loved ones and other citizens at risk. The outcome could be fatal.
