
An 8-year old boy is taken to the hospital after a car strikes him in Clute, Texas. According to police, the boy is suspected of suffering head injuries as well as internal injuries as a result of the Clute car accident.
The accident occured at approximately 3:45 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2009. The accident happened in the 200 block of Stratton Ridge Road. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Clute, reportedly struck the boy with his car, according to Clute Police Sgt. Christopher Smoot.
Smoot said that the driver said the boy was riding his bike between two trailer homes and rode into the street before he could see him. The incident is currently under investigation.
The boy was immediately transported by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital located in Houston. According to Smoot, as of Sunday evening, the boy’s condition was unknown. Smoot reported that the young boy was coherent when he was transported from the scene of the accident. He also indicated that the boy had cuts and bruises, as well as possible head and internal injuries.
Police reported that the driver’s breath smelled of alcohol. He was given a blood alcohol test at Brazosport Regional Health System.
According to Smoot, the man was arrested for driving with no driver’s license. However, as of Sunday evening, no other charges have been filed.
