Driver Dies After Hitting Tree on Westheimer

The accident occurred this morning around 12:01 a.m. on Westheimer Parkway near Fry Road, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. (Chron.com)
The driver veered into the median in his 1997 blue Honda Prelude and then smashed into a tree, deputies said. The car was snapped in two, throwing out the driver and his only passenger.
The driver was reported dead at the scene, and the passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital. The passengers injuries and condition have not been released.
No other injuries have been reported.
