July 11, 2010 - Houston, TX - The July 9th crash that claimed the lives of 3 Houston teens is back to square one after losing its primary suspect.
Updating from an earlier report from MyFoxHouston, KHOU.com has new reports that 25-year-old Sajan Timalshina, a resident of Nepal who was in the U.S. on a student visa, fled the country the same day he caused the fatal crash that has now killed 3 teenage girls.
The original July 9th report stated that two girls, Avianca Cortez, 13, and Rashaunda Raleigh, 17, died at the scene after being ejected. A third victim, 13-year-old Detrihanna Davis, was transported to the hospital in critical condition where she later died. The other 4 occupants were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Following the accident, Timalshina was given blood tests to check for intoxication. The results were pending, and the responding officers had no reason to believe he was a flight risk, so he was released while the investigation took place.
The blood tests showed he was over the legal limit for operating a vehicle and charges were brought against him Monday, leading officers to discover he had fled the country the evening after the DUI crash took place. It is believed he may be traveling through Qatar in an effort to reach his home country of Nepal. U.S. Marshals have been notified.
Timalshina failed field sobriety tests at the scene, and refused a voluntary blood sample test. He was later given an involuntary blood test at Ben Taub hospital which resulted in a retrograde analysis result of 0.127% BAC. Timalshina claimed he had worked a long day, was confused from fatigue, and had only consumed ¼ of a 12 oz. Corona before driving.
