June 25, 2010 - Lancaster, TX - A family was left homeless and injured after an allegedly drunk driver crashed through the living room of the Simon family home on the 800 block of West Pleasant Run Road. Four children were playing in the living room at the time of the June 13 car crash and were pinned under the wrecked vehicle.
The last of the injured children has since been released from the hospital after suffering a fractured skill, punctured lung, broken ankle, and 5 broken ribs. Unfortunately, the damage from the car accident was so severe that the home has since been condemned and boarded up. The family now lives with relatives.
The driver has already been released from prison without posting bond but the Dallas County Sheriff's Department told KHOU News that charges will likely be re-filed. The other tragedy in this car accident is that the driver was also uninsured, which means the family has no means of recovering compensation to start over.
The mother of the 4 injured boys told reporters; "We don't have anything; we're just trying to see where we're going to go from here." Incredibly, the family does not seem to hold ill feelings towards the negligent driver responsible for destroying their home and injuring their children.
When uninsured drivers cause serious car accidents, it usually falls on the victim's uninsured motorist coverage to help them recover funds.
