Fatal Accidents are Higher Around Holidays

According to the Texas Motor Vehicle Crash Statistics, there were 26 fatal car crashes from December 23 - December 26, 2010 resulting in 29 total fatalities in Texas.  There were a further 25 fatal accidents totaling 27 deaths from Thursday December 30 - Sunday January 2, 2011.

In Texas there was at least one fatal car accident resulting in one or more deaths every single day in 2010.  There was a total of 3,023 deaths due to car accidents in 2010, slightly down from 3,109 in 2009.  That is an average of over 8 people every day.  The average is closer to 9 people per day during the holidays.

Drunk driving accidents are 100% preventable yet these accidents happen all of the time, especially around the holidays.  In 2010 in Texas 985 people were killed (about 33% of all accidents) in accidents where one of more of the drivers was charged with a DUI.
