According to investigators, the Metro bus was traveling westbound on St. Joseph Parkway when the driver ran a red light and struck a light rail train that was traveling northbound on Main Street. It was unclear as to why the bus driver ran the light.
Rescue crews transported the bus driver and eight passengers to local hospitals where they were treated for injuries sustained in the accident. Their identities and conditions were not made available. There were no injuries reported on the train.
“It was just horrible,” said Maria Garza, a passenger on the train. “At the moment I didn’t know what to think. It was just something that happened really fast. It just took me by surprise.”
The Houston accident is still under investigation by local authorities. They indicated that there was a camera on board the train that should assist officials in their investigation.
This is an unfortunate accident and our thoughts go out to all of those that were involved.
