Several car accidents are believed to have been caused by the heavy overnight rain on March 13, 2009. Some of these accidents occurred in the Houston area, including one involving a Houston police officer.
The Houston police officer was driving northbound on the wet freeway when the police car spun out of control as it approached Tidwell exit on Interstate 45, the North Freeway in north Houston. The rear bumper of the police vehicle smashed into a concrete wall. Luckily, the police officer was not injured in the accident. The crash occurred at about 12:30 AM.
Another accident took place at the same time as the police officer crash in northwest Houston. A pickup truck spun out of control on the North Freeway in close proximity to Link Road. As the pickup truck spun out of control, another car crashed into it, which pushed the truck into a concrete wall.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition. A passenger in the car that was involved in the accident was injured and taken to the hospital also.
Within an hour of these two crashes, a Florida woman was injured in an accident near Memorial Park. She was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10, when her truck hit standing water and spun out of control. Her vehicle smashed into a concrete wall twice near the Washington Avenue exit. The driver was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.
