
A Houston car accident involving an ambulance results in the arrest of a man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The incident took place at approximately 2:30 AM on Thursday morning, October 29, 2009.
The two-vehicle wreck between a car and the ambulance occurred at the intersection of South Dairy Ashford and Westheimer Road in the southwest Houston area.
According to investigators, witnesses reported that a Honda car was heading southbound on South Dairy Ashford when it struck the ambulance. The ambulance was exiting a shopping center when the car slid into the side of the emergency vehicle. According to witnesses, the Honda was traveling at approximately 80 mph.
Investigators report that there was a woman who was 8 months pregnant inside the ambulance at the time of the incident. She had been involved in another car accident on Westheimer Road which the ambulance had responded to.
The unidentified woman did not sustain additional injuries from the accident with the Honda. However, she was transferred into another ambulance and taken to West Houston Medical Center.
The driver of the Honda was placed under arrest. According to police, the unidentified man was highly intoxicated, failed a field sobriety test and was unable to stand when police arrested him.
The Houston drunk driving accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
