Evening accidents in the Houston area leave four people dead and one man in a wheelchair injured. The unrelated accidents took place on Friday evening, December 18, 2009.
According to the sheriff’s office, Harold Horton was killed while crossing an intersection around 7:00 PM in east Harris County. An unidentified driver of a Chevrolet truck struck the pedestrian in his right side. Rescue workers transported Horton to LBJ Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Another accident involving an unidentified man driving a black Ford F-150 took place in the 6100 block on Eastland when the truck swerved into the opposite lane of traffic and slammed into a man who was on the side of the road in a wheelchair. Rescue workers rushed the injured man to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, according to Houston Police Department spokesperson Jodi Silva.
Another pedestrian, Stephen Cannon, 27, was killed when he was hit by a Nissan while attempting to walk across the South Loop West near Kirby. The driver, Juan Benitez, 33, fled the scene. However, police located the man about a mile away in a parking lot.
Later that evening, a motorcyclist was killed on the South Loop East between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway, when the male motorcyclist lost control of his bike and slammed into a Dodge Durango.
Right before midnight, a single Houston auto accident claimed the life of Trina Harris, when her vehicle slammed into a concrete wall on the East Hardy Toll Road.
