
A Houston car accident involving two vehicles ends in the death of a 2-year-old boy. The incident took place at approximately 1:45 PM on Saturday afternoon, November 7, 2009 at the 11500 block of Northwest Freeway.
The accident involving a green Chevrolet C1500 pickup and a white Mercury Grand Marquis occurred when the Mercury failed to stop at a red traffic light. According to investigators, witnesses reported that the Chevrolet pickup truck was heading east on the freeway frontage road as the Mercury, heading north on Antoine Drive, ran the red light causing the two-vehicle accident.
The 2-year-old boy, who was traveling in the Mercury at the time of the incident, was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Sunday. According to police, the child was not strapped into a car seat. They have not released the name of the boy.
Rescue workers transported three other unidentified people to local hospitals where they were treated for injuries suffered in the accident. No other details about their injuries were available.
The incident is still under investigation by local authorities. No other information was made available as to whether any charges will be brought forth. The case is to be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
