A Houston car accident in the downtown area involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) kills two, including a local Texas attorney. The incident took place at approximately 8:00 AM on Thursday morning, October 29, 2009.
The Houston Chronicle reported that Attorney John O’Quinn, 68, and another unidentified man were traveling along the Allen Parkway, just west of the downtown area, when the crash took place. They were allegedly driving at excessive speeds in a black Chevrolet Suburban when the SUV lost control, crossed two medians, and finally slammed into a tree. The force of the impact caused the tree to be uprooted and required rescue workers to chop away the tree before the SUV could be removed from the scene.
Rescue workers pronounced both men dead at the scene. According to the Houston Chronicle, it is unknown as to who was driving the vehicle when the SUV lost control and crashed into the tree.
According to police, there was light precipitation that morning and the roads were slick, playing a possible contributing factor in the crash.
O’Quinn, a Texas plaintiff attorney, was nationally known.
The accident is still under investigation by local authorities as to determine the exact cause of the wreck.
