Two separate Houston car accidents resulted in the death of one person and injured four others.  The crashes occurred on the south side of Houston late Monday night, October 19, 2009.

The first accident occurred just after 10:00 PM involving a black Nissan Maxima with two passengers. According to investigators, the Nissan was traveling at high speeds on the Beltway 8 frontage road near Bissonnet Street when the driver lost control and careened into a utility pole.

Rescue workers extracted the driver and passenger from the Nissan Maxima. The male driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The female passenger was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The second accident occurred shortly after 11:00 PM that same evening involving a Honda car and a sport utility vehicle (SUV). According to investigators, the incident took place on the southbound lanes of Interstate 45 near the 610 Loop exit ramp.

Officials say that the accident occurred when the Honda shifted three lanes without the use of a turn signal. The Honda allegedly struck the SUV causing the SUV to roll over several times.

The unidentified driver of the SUV was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. According to investigators, she was not wearing a seatbelt.  There were two other passengers in the SUV and both were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.

The driver of the Honda was not hurt and has not been charged in the death of the SUV’s driver.
