Houston Truck Accident Kills One

A Houston truck accident involving three vehicles, including an 18-wheeler, leaves one person dead after the semi strikes a vehicle. The incident took place at approximately 1:45 AM on Saturday morning, January 9, 2010.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident began with a stalled Mazda on the side of the road in the 9000 block of Eastex Freeway. According to reports, a white Chevrolet Silverado either struck the Mazda or a concrete wall in an attempt to avoid the Mazda.

Houston Police Department spokesperson John Cannon said an 18-wheeler then came along and slammed into the stalled Mazda, killing the driver of the Mazda. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rescue crews transported a second passenger in the Mazda to a nearby hospital and was treated for injuries sustained in the wreck. According to Cannon, the injuries were considered serious.

The identities of those involved in the fatal accident have not been made available.

Officials report that the driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene of the accident.

The Houston car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The Houston Police Department’s Hit and Run unit has asked anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who may have information concerning the incident to contact them at (713) 247-4065.
