Tragedy struck the NFL family. Denver Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville’s parents were killed in Texas on Tuesday when a wreck between a tractor-trailer truck and their motorcycle occurred in the Texas Panhandle.

Alfonso Studesville, 67, and his passenger, 68-year-old Janet Studesville, both of Madison, Wisconsin, were riding their motorcycle on westbound US Highway 54 when a tractor-trailer headed in the opposite direction drifted into their lane. A head-on collision between the two vehicles occurred.

According to Texas DPS trooper Christopher Ray, the accident occurred in good weather on Tuesday afternoon about five miles outside the town of Texhoma. While an investigation into the crash is ongoing, there is no word yet on why the accident occurred or what caused the driver to swerve into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Anthony DeWayne Buck, of Dalhart, Texas, was not injured in the crash. Both Alfonso and Janet Studesville were declared dead at the scene of the accident.

On Wednesday, the Broncos released a statement saying, “Our most heartfelt condolences go to Eric Studesville and his entire family following the tragic loss of his parents, Al and Jan Studesville. We were devastated to learn of their passing today. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric and his family, and our organization will support them however possible during this difficult time.”

Studesville has spent 17 years coaching in the NFL, the last four with the Broncos. He was promoted to interim head coach when Josh McDaniels was fired in the last month of 2010. Studesville returned to his job as running back coach when John Fox was hired the following season.

We send the Studesville family our best thoughts and condolences during this very difficult time.
