A Pearland auto accident involving seven vehicles leaves two dead and several others injured. The chain-reaction crash took place at approximately 6:30 AM on Wednesday morning, February 17, 2010, along Texas 35.
According to Pearland police, the incident began when a Chevrolet pickup truck heading south on Texas 35 began to swerve into oncoming traffic. The Chevrolet reportedly hit several other vehicles before hitting another pickup truck head-on.
The collision forced both of the pickup trucks into a nearby ditch where they both caught on fire. The unidentified driver of the Chevrolet was not able to escape the burning vehicle.
“He died at the scene,” said Pearland police Lt. Onesimo Lopez.
However, the driver of the second pickup truck was able to successfully escape the burning scene. Details concerning his injuries were not made available.
A total of seven vehicles were involved in the pileup as other drivers attempted to avoid the original crash. Police report that the driver of a Ford Explorer was also killed in the accident when her vehicle slammed into the side of another car.
The Pearland chain-reaction crash is still under investigation by local authorities.
This is a tragic accident and our thoughts and condolences go out to all of those that have been affected by the unfortunate incident.
