Teen Responsible for Truck-Related Houston, TX Death Indicted

Posted on May 15, 2013

A Huntsville, TX teenager has been indicted for his primary role in causing a one-vehicle accident that seriously injured one girl and killed another. If convicted on all charges, the Texas teenager could face 2 to 10 years behind bars.

The accident at the center of these serious criminal charges occurred last December 2nd when the teen, Bryson Richard O’Brien took a reckless turn at high speeds in his pickup truck while carrying passengers in the back. The turn caused Jami Leann Chatham and McKayla Ryann Wright, both 17 at the time, to fly out of the back.

As a result of the fall, both girls received serious head injuries. Chatham passed away, and Wright is still recovering. O’Brien, who was also 17 at the time of the wreck, was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He also fled the scene.

“This is the old failure to stop and render aid charge, which we felt best fit this case,” District Attorney David Weeks said. “He got out of the truck and knew the girls were injured and needed help, but he still fled the scene. After police interviewed a witness who stayed at the scene, they were able to locate him and make an arrest.”

O’Brien is now facing third-degree felony charges as a result of his actions. No date for the trial has yet been set. We hope that justice is served when the trial (or plea) takes place, no matter what outcome is eventually reached.
