A Texas City car accident involving a hit-and-run driver leaves a 56-year-old man dead after the pedestrian is struck by a sedan. The incident took place at approximately 10:00 PM on Saturday evening, February 27, 2010, along 25th Street.
According to Texas City Police Sgt. Joe Stanton, Richard Alan Marschner, 56, of Texas City, was crossing the street near 25th Street when a car hit him. Rescue crews transported Marschner by helicopter to the University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy Hospital in Galveston where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the pedestrian accident.
Stanton said the driver fled the scene after hitting the man. However, witnesses have described the hit-and-run vehicle as a black 1990’s Toyota Corolla or Camry.
The fatal Texas City auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Police have not yet determined if Marschner was in a designated crosswalk when he was struck by the fleeing car.
Anyone with information concerning the fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident has been asked to contact local authorities or Crime Stoppers at (409) 945-8477.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Mr. Marschner’s family and friends during this difficult time.
