Texas May Finally Ban Texting While Driving

Posted on Jun 03, 2011

A new bill just passed Texas Legislature after at least 10 bills were filed at the Capital. (KHOU)

If Texas Governor Rick Perry signs it, Senate Bill 138 would ban texting while driving, except with a hands-free device. The penalty would fine prosecutors up to $200 according to House Bill 93, or $400 if committed in a school zone according to House Bill 103.

If passed, Texas will join 32 other states in banning sending or reading text messages, emails, or any instant messages while driving.

Texting is said to be even more dangerous than drunken driving.

This action to ban cell phone texting will hopefully reduce the amount of injuries and deaths caused by car and truck crashes. If more drivers can keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, it is pretty reasonable to assume that the number of collisions should go down.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a Texas car or truck accident, you should contact a Houston accident lawyer to find out your legal options. You might be able to hold the trucker and trucking company accountable and could be entitled to compensation. Contact Attorney Steve Lee at 713-921-4171 or Toll Free 800-232-3711 for legal advice.
