When a car collides with a heavier vehicle like a dump truck, the car’s occupants stand little chance. Once such collision occurred last week in Fort Bend County, and claimed the life of a popular high school student.

The teenager killed in the accident, 17-year-old Bailey Cooper, was driving near her school at 4400 FM 723 in Richmond. Her car reportedly swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided head-on with a dump truck travelling in the opposite direction.

The dump truck driver was not injured in the Texas motor vehicle accident, but Bailey was killed instantly. It is still unclear—despite an ongoing investigation—as to what caused her car to swerve into the path of the heavy truck.

Bailey was the swim team captain at Foster High School in Fort Bend County, and has been remembered since the crash as an outstanding student, and one who brought joy with her wherever she went.

“She was beautiful inside and outside,” said Gene Tomas, the school’s principal who got to know Bailey through her participation on the swim team. “She truly left her imprint at Foster High School. Foster High School is a better place because of Bailey Cooper.”

We have written before on this website about the immense danger that large vehicles such as dump trucks and semi-trucks pose to all other drivers on the road. Not only are the drivers of these trucks prone to negligence in causing accidents, but these accidents are often catastrophic when they occur.

Our deepest sympathies go out to all of those affected by this tragic accident. We invite all victims of Houston, TX truck accidents to contact us if we can help in any way.
