An industrial accident at a North Texas water reclamation site has claimed the life of a service technician. Curtis Anderson, 54, a three-year employee of Liquid Environmental Solutions and resident of Grapevine, was killed at the Fort Worth Water Department’s Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility. The facility discharges treated effluent into the West Fork of the Trinity River, a sensitive stream that during dry months may be composed of up to 95 percent treated effluent.

Mary Gugliuzza, spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Water Department, said Anderson was delivering a load of liquid food waste when the accident occurred. There were no witnesses to the incident and no other information about what exactly happened is available at this time. An employee who was making rounds noticed the spilled waste product. He notified another worker and they discovered Anderson. Officials tried to resuscitate Anderson, but they were unsuccessful.

Dana King, spokesperson for Liquid Environmental Solutions, says they are continuing to work with authorities to understand the cause of the accident. The Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility was not damaged in the incident.

We so frequently hear about the dangers of working in the maritime industry, pipelines and construction, but we don’t always remember that individuals who haul both solid and liquid waste face great dangers as well. They may need to transport hazardous waste while operating heavy machinery and if something goes wrong, the result can be fatal.

The team at Steve Lee, Attorney at Law, offers its sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Curtis Anderson.
