Workers begin salvaging Cynthia Woods

Posted on Jun 11, 2008

GALVESTON — The Cynthia Woods was only 2 years old and in good condition when six members of the Texas A&M University at Galveston offshore sailing team left the island Friday afternoon in a 700 mile race to Veracruz, Mexico, officials say.

On Tuesday, salvage workers were preparing to tow the sailboat to an undisclosed location where investigators would try to determine from the wreckage what caused its keel to fall off, killing one crew member and sending five others adrift in the Gulf of Mexico for 26 hours.
