Three adults were killed in a two-vehicle car accident that took place in Orange County, Texas, outside of Houston. The fatal wreck also left a 3-year-old child in critical condition.

The incident took place at approximately 9:05 PM on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009. According to a Department of Safety dispatcher, the two-car crash took place at the intersection of FM 1442 and Cajun Way Road in the Orange County area. Cajun Way Road is formerly known as Jap Lane.

The two vehicles crashed into one another when Kelly Marie Dutta, driving a 2006 GMC Sierra southbound on FM 1442, made a turn onto Cajun Way Road. Dutta apparently made the turn in front of a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Kathy Viator of Vidor.

Emergency crews pronounced Dutta, 33 of Beaumont, dead at the scene. Traveling with Dutta was 3-year-old Emilee Dutta Nowddin. She was transported by ambulance to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston where she is listed in critical condition.

The other two victims involved in the fatal Orange County crash, Margarett Jane Cottom, 61, of Jasper and Kathy Harrison Viator, 47, of Orange were also pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The crash is currently under investigation by authorities.
