A Clear Lake car accident in the Houston area involving a single-car leaves the driver dead and injures a passenger after the vehicle loses control and slams into a tree. The incident took place early Saturday, January 2, 2010, near the University of Houston at Clear Lake.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, Joshua Howard, was traveling southbound in the 2700 block of West Bay Area Boulevard, when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road and slammed into a tree. According to reports, the 2000 Ford Mustang GT driven by Howard was in the outside lane, instead of the single marked lane, when the accident took place.
Rescue crews transported Howard to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the wreck.
An unidentified front passenger was also injured in the accident. However, the passenger refused medical treatment from rescue workers at the scene.
The fatal Houston area accident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Traffic Enforcement Section. It has not been determined as to why Howard was in the outside lane, however, investigators believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the single-vehicle accident that left one person dead.
