A worker from Channelview lost his life in a backhoe accident at a Galveston shipyard.

James Mays, 40, died in the accident, which occurred soon after 2:00 on the afternoon of November 5, 2012.

According to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office, Mays was operating the backhoe from outside the cab of the vehicle when he became pinned by the machine’s boom.

Mays reportedly was a contract employee at Southwest Shipyard in Galveston. A crew was digging a hole on a project at the shipyard when the accident occurred. Additional details about the project and the accident were not immediately available.
