March 21, 2012 – Conroe, Texas – According to the Chron.com, a single-vehicle car crash fatally injures a teen driver and injures another.
The fatal car crash took place on Wednesday, March 14, at around 2 a.m.
Daniel Lee Freund, 18, of Conroe, was traveling at a high rate of speed, in a 2002 Saturn Ion on FM 1485, when it skidded off a curve and into a ditch, striking an electrical pole. The force of the impact nearly tore the car in half.
It took emergency crews nearly 45 minutes to free the driver and passenger, Halie Diane McDonald, 16, of Conroe. Freund were transported to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, where he was listed as being in good condition.
McDonald was transported to Memorial Hermann in Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Based on police reports, neither of them were wearing a seat belt and the road conditions were foggy.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2010 Texas Crash Statistics, there were 2,998 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Texas.
