An auto accident in Diboll, killed two East Texans and injured three other people. The Texas car accident took place shortly before midnight on Saturday, May 30, 2009 approximately .2 miles north of Diboll. Two children and one adult were transferred to hospitals in Houston and Dallas in poor condition.

Willie Lacy, a 48-year-old Alto resident, and Crystal Thomas, a 29-year-old Lufkin resident, died at the scene of the crash. Lacy was a railroad worker and Thomas was a state school employee. Their child, 7-year-old Joveair Thomas, was with them at the time of the accident and was transferred to Dallas Children’s Hospital with internal and chest injuries. Thomas’ other child, 4-year-old Christopher Gross, is also being treated at Dallas Children’s Hospital for a broken neck and internal injuries. Thomas’ mother is currently with the children.

The Department of Public Safety stated that the couple’s vehicle was struck head on by a GMC pickup truck driven by Vicente Gonzalez, a 30-year-old landscaper from Corrigan. He is also in critical condition for internal injuries and broken legs at Hermann Hospital in Houston. According to investigators, Gonzalez was driving southbound in the northbound lane.
