Worker Killed by Falling Beam at Port of Houston in Texas

June 11, 2012 – Houston, Texas – A Chron.com story reports that a man was killed in an accident at the Port of Houston at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 4. Manuel Funez, a temporary driver for Lone Star Staffing, was at the port to deliver a vessel and pick up steel beams.

Funez, who was standing by the driver’s side of his vehicle, was crushed by a steel beam that fell while his truck was being loaded. He was identified by an official from the temporary employment agency.

The accident is still under investigation by authorities.

Although the cause of this accident has yet to be determined, it may have been a result of improper loading, which may be considered negligence and can warrant a wrongful death claim.

When an employee is injured or killed in the workplace because of another person’s negligence, the employer may be obligated to provide Workers’ Comp benefits or compensation for the accident. Depending on the circumstances of your case, you may be entitled to a settlement to cover medical costs, lost income, and even pain and suffering.
