A motorcycle rider was killed in a side-impact collision with an SUV in Harris County this weekend. With the investigation into the crash ongoing, police already suspect that alcohol played a large part in causing the wreck.
The red Suzuki motorcycle and its rider, Cesar Lerman, were traveling northbound on Telge Road in Harris County when it collided with a Range Rover SUV making a left turn across traffic into a business driveway. The SUV was driven by Mary Hadfield-Denison.
Ms. Hadfield-Denison failed to yield the right-of-way to the motorcycle while making her left turn—whether she saw the motorcycle or not is unclear—and the two vehicles collided. Unfortunately for the rider of the motorcycle, he took the brunt of the accident’s force.
Mr. Lerman was flown by LifeFlight medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann, The Texas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries, either to Ms. Hadfield-Denison or others on the road, were reported as a result of the crash.
As a form of procedure, Ms. Hadfield-Denison was tested for intoxication, and evidence of drunkenness was recovered. She was then arrested for intoxication manslaughter, and will likely face charges that carry hefty fines and possible jail time. Civil suits for financial compensation may also follow.
